Local Hamiltonians for quantitative Green's function embedding methods.
Embedding calculations that find approximate solutions to the Schrödinger equation for large molecules and realistic solids are performed commonly in a three step procedure involving (i) construction of a model system with effective interactions approximating the low energy physics of the initial realistic system, (ii) mapping the model system onto an impurity Hamiltonian, and (iii) solving the...
متن کاملMapping local Hamiltonians of fermions to local Hamiltonians of spins
We show how to map local fermionic problems onto local spin problems on a lattice in any dimension. The main idea is to introduce auxiliary degrees of freedom, represented by Majorana fermions, which allow us to extend the Jordan–Wigner transformation to dimensions higher than one. We also discuss the implications of our results in the numerical investigation of fermionic systems.

Constant-Soundness Interactive Proofs for Local Hamiltonians
We give a quantummultiprover interactive proof system for the local Hamiltonian problem in which there is a constant number of provers, questions are classical of length polynomial in the number of qubits, and answers are of constant length. The main novelty of our protocol is that the gap between completeness and soundness is directly proportional to the promise gap on the (normalized) ground ...
متن کاملLocal Hamiltonians in Quantum Computation
In this thesis, I investigate aspects of local Hamiltonians in quantum computing. First, I focus on the Adiabatic Quantum Computing model, based on evolution with a timedependent Hamiltonian. I show that to succeed using AQC, the Hamiltonian involved must have local structure, which leads to a result about eigenvalue gaps from information theory. I also improve results about simulating quantum ...
